Learning The Different Tarot Spreads
Meaning of Tarot Card Spreads If knowing the meaning of the symbols on tarot cards is an important part of tarot card divination, then knowing the different spreads in tarot card reading comes a close second in importance.

The first important aspect to know about is what a spread is. The spread in tarot card reading is the layout in which cards are placed by the tarot card reader after the cards are shuffled and cut. There are basic layouts are often used by tarot card readers have thousands of variations, which help to give specific answers to the querent's question. One of the cards or an extra card is used when the spread is laid out and called the significator. The importance of the significator card is that it signifies and represents the querent and the person the querent is on the date of the query.

There are a few basic card spreads from which variations of different spreads in tarot are made, which are used to answer specific questions. The Celtic cross is the most commonly used card spread. It consists of ten cards 6 laid in the shape of a cross and 4 vertically beside the cross and the central card is the significator. The cards at the crossing show the obstacles in the answer to the question posed. The horseshoe card spread has cards laid in a v shape. The cards from left to right signify the past and present obstacles to the question of the querent. The 3 card tarot spread is a simple spread where three cards signifying the past, present, and future are laid out. The astrological spread is laid out in a twelve card circle representing the signs of the zodiac and a thirteenth card is placed at the center to represent the significator. Sometimes one card is dealt and this single card constitutes a spread in tarot reading. The Tetractys spread is one where ten cards are arranged in a four row pyramid each row represents the earth, air, fire and water. Each card has a meaning and the top card is the significator.

The importance of the tarot spread is that each spread assigns a specific meaning to the cards. General questions can be answered by using basic tarot card spreads. If an in depth analysis is required, knowing the meanings of different spreads in tarot will help the tarot professional focus efforts on a single problem or a particular area of interest in answer to the question of the querent.

There are guidelines given on what you must consider before choosing a tarot spread among the different spreads in tarot. You must first decide a spread based on what the question is. The tarot spread should be laid out based on whether the querent wants a general or specific question answered. You must also consider how much detail the querent wants you to give before picking a tarot spread. If you don't have much experience, it is wise to choose the spread you are familiar with.

You may know all you need to know about the symbols on tarot cards. If you don't know the significance of the different spreads in tarot or layout of the tarot, you cannot accurately practice divination through tarot cards.
