Be A Holiday Angel |
The holiday season reminds us more than ever, that angels are around us near and far. Not only do we have angels, but there are earth angels, people right here on earth that choose to act as angels! This holiday season, you too can be an angel and brighten someone’s holiday season. What may surprise you the most, is that it may brighten your holiday season most of all to be a holiday earth angel.
Set the intention and make a conscious choice to be an earth angel. Say, “Today I choose to be an earth angel for others.” You’ll notice that people, situations and opportunities will gently present themselves where you – and sometimes only you – can be the one to make a difference. We all have unique talents and abilities. From your sense of humor, delicious cooking, kind and generous heart – only you can be the earth angel you are meant to be.
There are many volunteer opportunities during the holiday season. It’s easy to see that earth angels are in demand. Whether you help out at the town’s toy drive, local hospital, nursing home, animal shelter or soup kitchen, there are dozens if not hundreds of volunteer opportunities looking for an earth angel to lend a helping hand. Spend an hour or two during the holidays making someone else’s holiday season merry and bright – and you may discover that you are enveloped in that lovely warm glow we know as the joy that makes the holiday season so special.
You don’t always have to look for a sign up sheet to volunteer, there are many simple things you can do to help – that are easy to fit into your day. Help your elderly neighbor and shovel their driveway clear of snow. Or offer to watch a mom friend’s children while she goes shopping for their holiday toys. These may be things that seem so easy to you, but they really make a difference to someone’s holiday season.
Try "one a day." This is one of the easiest ways to be a holiday angel…are you ready? Decide now that you will do one effort as an earth angel every day. Cheer someone up who has the holiday blues. Donate a few cans of food to the soup kitchen. Take your nephew to see Santa Claus. You may enjoy doing “one a day” so much, it may become your regular habit. What happens then? You’re simply an earth angel all year long!
Give a little when you can. In today’s economy, it seems hard to give – but most of us do have things we can give. Donate your old, warm coat to a coat drive. Give books to the library for their book sale. Go through your closet and purge old business suits, dresses, accessories, knowing that someone who has a job interview and a tight budget will be thrilled to wear your gently used items.
Want to know the secret of being an earth angel? You can decide to be an earth angel in an instant, and you can make people smile – sometimes making their day or a larger impact. You don’t have to do a lot of things you don’t want to do – if you love to cook and bake, then this may be your path to being an earth angel. Be a holiday earth angel – or one all year!
