Amy Winehouse is a famous songstress with a dual reputation. She is known both for being a talented singer, but also a troubled soul. Who knew that her most famous song "Rehab" would become such a real life expression of her reality. Yet, the public cannot get enough of her music and the details of her personal life.
Surprisingly, Amy Winehouse is a Virgo, which shows that not all Virgos are stuffy and uptight. She was born September 14, 1983. Creatively, she does express many of the Virgo traits, and even as a popular star, she probably needs everything to be "just so." Some Virgos also steer out of balance when they feel that their life is less than ideal. They can self-destruct when they realize that they can't control everything they want.
So why is this Virgo such a rebel? She has six planets in fire signs, including her Mars. She is also a lot flakier than your usual run-of-the-mill Virgo because her natal chart (the chart she was born with) shows that her sun squares Neptune. This is a very creative aspect, but it can also show someone with a very shaky sense of self-esteem and personal identity. All of the costuming, the wigs, and the tattoos represent an effort to deal with that.
Neptune, which is also a planet of addiction, conjoins her moon. This means her creativity is largely wrapped up in a disassociation from reality. It may even be possible that Amy Winehouse can lose creatively unless she is actively using some kind of drugs or alcohol.
Neptune conjoining the moon does mean creative brilliance, but it can mean that she is also often irrational and an extremist. The bizarre clothing choices and attention getting behavior is also probably due to the fact that she has both Mars and Venus conjunction in Leo. Leo is a sign that cannot get enough attention and admiration. Furthermore, she also has Jupiter in Sagittarius, which means that her very success will always depend on her need to be independent and free.
Amy Winehouse will always be in conflict with regards to her need for privacy, while battling with her need for attention. The Virgo in her would need to be alone to feel in control, but all of those planets in Leo would have her sabotaging her best efforts at self-control.
It is also not likely that she will ever triumph over her addiction problems. Sadly, Amy Winehouse has Chiron, the wounded healer, in the unstable sign of Gemini. Furthermore, Gemini is a sign that signifies dramas that will be acted out in public, so we will be hearing a lot more about her trials in the near future.
The other problem with Chiron in Gemini in her chart is that it is retrograde. This means that no matter what Amy Winehouse does, she is never going to feel good enough. She could win hundreds of awards but she will always suffer from low self-esteem. This is probably what keeps her constantly battling drugs and alcohol.
