The Meaning of an Eclipse |
An eclipse occurs when the Earth stands between the Moon and the Sun or the Moon stands between the Sun and the Earth. The former is called a lunar eclipse and the latter is called a solar eclipse. Note that a lunar eclipse can’t occur in a way that we can view it unless there is a full moon.
Both types of eclipses usually mark big changes in our lives with the solar eclipse pointing to changes to do in our rational, practical everyday lives and the lunar eclipse pointing toward shifts in our feelings and subconscious. Both types also usually mark endings or culmination points in our lives.
Although the events that can take place around an eclipse shake up our lives and can make us uncomfortable, they force us to move from one level of evolution and maturity to another. After an eclipse, we often see a period of painful yet optimistic growth.
Eclipses, especially the solar ones, bring news of life’s big events such as a marriage, birth of a baby, a big move, the signing of a vital business deal, the purchase of a house, or the acquisition of a family pet. An eclipse can also bode surgery, a graduation, or a big break up. No matter what happens, keep in mind that this is the universe’s way of being intent on moving you forward in life.
Events that take place just before and just after an eclipse have more weight to them than usual. This is especially true of the lunar eclipses that take place on a full moon. Eclipses also bring on events that seem fated or part of our destiny. An eclipse does not have to fall into your sign to affect you, but you are probably more profoundly affected by it if it does.
If an eclipse falls on your birthday, the year that follows certainly will be quite eventful. You may experience a big change in lifestyle or in one specific part of your astrological chart depending where the eclipse falls. Guard your health if you are having an eclipse on your birthday, near your birthday, or if it is in your rising sign because you will be a bit more run down than usual.

It is best not to overwork yourself during an eclipse. You may be called in to help others, so keep your schedule light. Usually, time feels speeded up and many people experience more coincidences than usual. Sometimes there is also a feeling of anxiety in the air.
Although an eclipse bodes endings, they also signify beginnings. During an eclipse period, you may feel like you are walking across a bridge to a brand new place, with no turning back from where you started. The door behind you closes and locks. You can’t go backwards.
To avoid excess drama, try not to issue ultimatums or initiate big moves during an eclipse. Whatever you start will likely not stop. Stay reactive rather than proactive. It is better to avoid knee jerk reactions and to listen rather than act. For instance, if you were thinking of having a major talk with your girlfriend or boyfriend, it is better to do it after the eclipse rather than after as there is a greater chance that relationship issues could escalate into a difference that cannot be reconciled. You might also be feeling more emotional than usual, especially if it is a lunar eclipse. Since your judgment may be impaired, try to take as much time as you can to think of what you have heard.
News could also be unexpected and surprising. This does not necessarily mean its going to be bad news, but it could hit you like a bolt out of the blue! Sometimes the sudden change it bodes means that the universe had something better for you in mind. It is important to be patient and let things run their course. Fighting against negative events that occur during an eclipse can be futile.
Eclipses can also propel you into action. You may be suddenly able to do things you never thought you could before. Even though chaos can result as the result of an eclipse, there is often opportunity available with them as well.
Astrologers say that the message of an eclipse is not usually right on the eclipse, but delivered within four days before or after it. That is why it is so important to pay attention to all news that you hear around the event of an eclipse.
