Zodiac Fashion Trends For 2009 |
They say that when a recession hits, the hemlines go up as the stock market goes down. That may actually be true this year. There are some fashion movements that may actually mimic what is going on celestially. Astrologically, we are looking at a recession as is signified by several important planets.
One of the major planetary movements this year is a Jupiter retrograde and it lasts until the end of October. This usually means a tightening, thinning, or shedding of clothing. So in theory, this should mean that hemlines should go up and that silhouettes should be even sleeker and svelter. Expect to see lots of styles that are pseudo military and that have a cinched in belt. We may see more tailoring in an effort to make women look thinner.
Also, the Jupiter influence should bring certain colors into vogue. Probably the most influential colors will be the violets and purples. Jupiter is also symbolizes by the color orange and that is likely to be a popular hue for summer. Jupiter is not a light or flighty planet, so the preferred fabrics will be cottons, velvets, and silks. Once Jupiter gets out of its retrograde motion and starts moving direct, we will see greens, red, and purples come into fashion, just in time for Christmas. As Jupiter is also a planet of royalty, you will see clothes becoming richer, heavier, and more billowy in construction. Fabrics such as velors, velvets, and heavy silks should be in vogue by the end of the year.
There are many eclipses of the sun this year, which means that the color black will also be in style. Of course, some would argue that it never goes out of style, but after about seven years of chocolate brown being “the new black,” we will start to see the return of those solid black, almost military style uniforms that were so popular years ago. Heavy black eyeliner, black vinyl, and black leather will also very much be in style as will rubber jewelry and rubber accessories (reminiscent of the style trends that we had during the great recession of the 1980’s).
This does not mean that brown will be out of fashion. In fact, we will see more brown than ever. The planet Mercury rules this hue and there are four mercury retrogrades this year. We may also see the return of browner hairstyles and the brassy white blondes that have ruled the runways the last few years might actually go out of fashion.
In terms of jewelry, we are going to see some bizarre fashion trends. The sun is going through eclipses and although gold is symbolized by the sun, we are more likely to see more fake gold designs or wood designs that are painted gold. Yet another odd trend might be tin jewelry. Jupiter is prevalent this year and it rules lighter metals, like aluminum and tin, so we may see more artistic light grey toned jewelry.
