Give Thanksgiving And Give a Hand |
At Thanksgiving time, we are often reminded to “count our blessings” - to be grateful for what we have. It is good to take stock of your life and feel that warm glow as you realize you have a home, family and friends, a job, good health, and other blessings. The blessings seem to go higher and higher as you start to count. “I didn’t realize I had so much!” you may say as you take note. An excellent way to celebrate Thanksgiving is not only by giving thanks but also by giving a hand to others in your community who are in need.
There are many ways you can help people or society with issues in your community during Thanksgiving. The first step is to think about what tugs at your heart the most. Would you like to help the elderly, children, animals or some other members of the population? Likely, the first answer that excites you is the best one. Don’t worry! There are many ways you can give a hand this Thanksgiving.
If you want to help the hungry...
Serve dinner at a soup kitchen
Pack food bags at a food pantry
Collect food for a food pantry
Donate food for a food pantry or soup kitchen
If you want to help the elderly...
Visit nursing home residents who don’t have Thanksgiving Day visitors
Volunteer at your local Senior Center with an activity or project
Help an elderly neighbor during holiday time with grocery shopping, errands, or other needs

Ask your local animal shelter if you can pat cats or walk dogs
Donate pet foods for hungry animals at the animal shelter
