Psychic Detectives
Psychic Detectives Psychic Sylvia Browne, World-renowned Psychic Sylvia Browne pictures A psychic detective is one who attempts to solve crimes using psychic ability in place of traditional detecting methodology. Far from the image portrayed in Court TV’s “Psychic Detectives” series, psychics rarely become directly involved in criminal cases. Usually, they are involved only at the behest of a civilian connected to the unsolved crime, not the police investigating the crime.

All forms of traditional psychic ability have been known at one time of another to have been used in psychic detective work – clairvoyance, clairsentience or psychometry, dowsing, medium séance technique, Tarot reading, numerology, and many other forms of psychic determination. The most common crimes in which psychics become involved are missing-persons cases. Psychics will become involved voluntarily or by invitation from the family; police forces are not known for “officially” seeking the help of psychics.

There is an overwhelming and systematic spirit of derision surrounding the practice of psychic crimefighting. Police forces all over the world have rushed to go on record as disavowing and ruling out any chance of allowing psychic detectives to join the crimefighting teams in their efforts to solve crimes. It is generally known, however, that police investigating cases of missing persons will often allow the child’s family members to consult psychics and pass any useful information back to the police. A lead is a lead, and it matters very little if a psychic was able to provide it. But the caution involved in taking a chance on a psychic when short of leads is perhaps more easily understood if one is reminded that the psychic community is rife with frauds. Therefore, if it were known that a police detective relied on information furnished by a fraudulent psychic, every party in the case would suffer.

Moreover, since police forces do not wish to lend support to what is considered at least a pseudoscience, there is no known record of a psychic solving a criminal case single-handedly.

The psychic detective idea has also been derided and parodied on major television police dramas. On an episode of Law and Order, for example, a psychic who offers his help on a murder case is exposed as a perverted psychopath. However, following the success of the X-Files, which involved FBI investigations into the paranormal and other strange phenomena, the spinoff series Millennium appeared in the late 1990’s. Taking a different approach from the X-Files, Millennium neither supported nor condemned psychic detective work, but instead focused on the investigative career of the lead character, a government agent possessed of a highly developed intuition never directly acknowledged as psychic ability but nonetheless vital to his work. Perhaps leery of the ideas suggested by such a series, the network discontinued the show after a brief run.

Being Psychic is a gift. My psychic abilities are not as defined as those who work with the police, but they are accurate good or bad. My hat is off to the psychics doing police work, it is a hard job often causing them to take on the pain of the case.

I also do not believe that this article is accurate due to the fact that I HAVE directly worked with law enforcement several times throughout the last 10 years - different States and different situations. Not all towns are keen on the use, but some are much more open minded than what you give them credit to be.

I happen to know for a fact this article is not altogether accurate. Anyone who has watched TV knows that psychics are used in police work. I, myself, worked with the police on a couple of occasions to help solve crimes. One major case involved a gang that was targeting convenience stores and murdering the store clerks. I was instumental in helping to put these guys behind bars. I have a letter from the Chief of Police to prove it. This was in a small town in Tennessee. Since then the detectives, on that particular force, went to California and learned how to utilize psychics in their investigations. So saying the police do not use psychics is only generalizing.
