| Try A Seance This Halloween |
Halloween has long been the perfect time to connect with those that have passed into the other world. Spiritualists and many others firmly believe that the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest on Halloween night. A fun way for adults to celebrate Halloween can be to hold a séance.
Even if you've never done it before, you can hold a séance. You simply need an open mind and heart. Decide ahead of time that one person will be the medium for the group. This person should have some sensitivity and may have some experience communicating with souls who have crossed over. But the entire group will have the experience that Halloween night of looking for signs from the loved ones that visit your séance circle to see if they do indeed visit. So the designated medium is certainly not the only one that will get a psychic workout that evening!
You will need:
A private room
Table and chairs for everyone
Medium (experienced or simply interested for the evening)
Begin that evening by setting up your room. You'll want to be sure it is comfortable for everyone. Make sure that everyone is comfortable, because you don't want people getting up and down. Get people pillows to sit on or a glass of water if they want one now. Explain that they need to remain as part of the circle during the experience.
You don't need to dim the lights -- that is most often done for the effect -- you can hold a séance with the lights blazing if you want. Dim the lights or light candles if you choose to. Get everyone seated and you're ready to go!
Start your séance off by having everyone say a familiar prayer or a blessing. This creates sacred space and surrounds your séance circle with white light for protection. A popular prayer to say that is comfortable for many faiths is The Unity Prayer:
The Light of God surrounds me
The Love of God enfolds me
The Power of God protects me
The Wisdom of God guides and directs me
Wherever I go, God is
And all is well
And so it is
Amen.
Once you have blessed your space, you are ready to start your séance. It is critical to bless the séance before you begin to ensure that you will connect only with positive and loving spirits. Saying a prayer or a blessing gives you protection when doing your séance.
You can use your séance as a time to connect with your loved ones. Have the medium ask if they are there. So if you want to connect with your aunt Roberta Smith, the medium would say "Is Roberta Smith here please?" Then wait for a sign that she would be here. If she is your aunt, you may feel some type of sensation that she has entered the séance circle. Or the medium may feel something as well. Or perhaps other members of the séance will feel something. Quite often they will pick up on things that Roberta is best known for. So if Roberta was known for wearing a lovely perfume that had lilacs in it, you or someone else might start to smell lilacs suddenly. Scents are a common sign at a séance.
Thank Roberta for coming and ask if she has a message. The medium will deliver the message. Let the medium lead the séance. Other group members can give messages as well -- but it is best to have one leader for your séance. Other group members can try leading séances on other nights.
Let Roberta speak and then thank her for her message. You may realize that other loved ones for different people have come. Perhaps someone's grandfather has come and you smell cigar smoke or you hear his great belly laugh in your ear. Always ask if he is there and ask for the sign.
Have a prepared time limit for your séance and end your séance when you feel it is best. If you are having trouble connecting with the spirit world, then end it early. If the medium is having a great night, then you may want to go a little longer. But don't pressure the medium to go longer than promised. Running a séance always takes concentration and focus. The first time you do one it is best to keep it to an hour or maybe an hour and a half.
End your séance by thanking everyone for coming. Hold hands and say another prayer or a blessing. Then leave the séance and enjoy some social time so you can talk about your experiences.
It is best to leave the séance room when the séance is over to completely disconnect from the energy. Otherwise some spirits may think that the séance is still "on" and will try to connect.
