Why I Don’t Worship Angels

Some people that hear that I talk to angels look a little uncomfortable. They think that I “worship” angels in some way; that I must consider angels a religion. But that is untrue.

Angels can be religious and they are found in many of the world’s religions. Christianity, Judiasm, Hinduism, Zoastrianism and the Muslims all have angels. Some who are quite passionate about the study of angels call this study angelogy. That is simply “the study of angels.” But it is not the worship of angels.

The definition of “angel” is simply to be God’s messenger. I like this definition a lot because I think it also explains our relationship with angels quite well. They are messengers of God. So we do not see them as the Divine, but as messengers of the Divine.

This is not a religious forum and I personally respect all religions. It does concern me a bit when people hear that I talk to angels and they think in some way that I am worshiping the angels—because this is very much not the case.

What about you—do you consider yourself an angelogist? What do you think an angel’s role or duties are?

The first time I knew, with absolute surety, my guardian angel talked to me was in 1989 and long before I even knew Sylvia existed. I had pulled up into an empty ( except for a white van that had entered the parking lot from the "exit" road and cut his wheels back sharply into a parking space going in the opposite direction) ATM parking lot on a Sunday and because I was very weak, had pulled into the parking space directly beside him on his left, which would have been his "blind" side when he walked back from using the ATM machine. My small compact car was completely obscured from his vision unless he checked his side mirror before seting the van in motion (which he obviously didn't). He was at the ATM window completing his transaction when I pullled into the parking lot and had his back to me. I opened my door, put my left foot outside on the ground and was starting to exit the car, when a voice said to me,"Don't get out of the car. He doesn't see you". I know now it was a voice i heard telepathically, but It was very clear. I put my foot back inside the car and just pulled the door to me, not shuting it completely when, almost at the same time, he had gotten into his van, started the engine, and stomped on the gas pedal. The van came roaring back toward my car because of the odd angle at which he had parked and raised my automobile up off the ground about a foot. Had I been out of the car, or even in the position I was in when I "heard" the voice giving me the warning, he would have crushed me, killing me or at the very least maiming me for life. I knew at that moment that something, or someone, whom I have always called my guaradian angel, was watching over me and protecting me. I now am not sure if it was an angel or my spirit guide whom I call "Steve" for want of a better or the correct name.

As a young boy, I was raised in the Catholic faith, and somewhere in the process I was told that not only was my dad watching over me - he had died a few weeks before my second birthday - but that I had a guardian angel also watching over me. As I grew older, I grew apart from organized religion but never really gave up on angels and spirits. Maybe this is contradictory, but even though I have a certain skepticism about churches and doctrines, I still have faith that my guardian angel and dad watch over me and guide me.

I woke up in the middle of the night with someone calling my name. I looked around in my pitch black bedroom and off to the right side of my room there was a light. It was in the middle, between the ceiling and the floor. I could see two "people" looking down and on the floor of this of this vision was a man laying down, not moving. I knew at once he was the man I was going to marry in 2 weeks. I think this was my angel guide helping me to prepare for my fiance's death before it happened. I called him in the morning and asked him if he was ok. He laughed and said yes, he was ok. One week later, in the night, he had a heart attack and died. My guide or angel prepared me as much as they could ahead of time.

I don't believe in angels in the physical sense really. :-) I think angels are more like spiritual manifestations that inhabit others. Think about the man who saves a little girl from drowning, or returns a lost wallet to someone. These people just felt the 'want' to be good, and to do good, perhaps brave things. It's like the spirit of Christmas, yet it's an all-year-round thing. We have a conscience for a reason! :-)

I do love angels but I don,t worship them. My collection of angels is countless.I have even rescued angels from garage sales.I was afraid if they didn,t sell that they would be headed for the dumster. I even have a tattoo of an angel.......

You raise a good point, Jeannie. Often it's us not noticing that's at fault. How many times do they knock books from shelves that we should read only to watch us simply lift them from the floor and replace them, I wonder. :) Angels can come to us in many ways. I believe we have our fair share here on Earth that take human form to help us. I've heard just the right thing that I needed to, to help me grow and develop at points in my life, from a complete stranger or casual acquaintance too many times for it to be mere coincidence. Like you, I believe both my guides and angels are always near at hand.

I don't worship angels but I do believe in them. They do exist and are around us constantly. I believe they surround us and will "help" when the timing is right. We may not feel that they are "working" but the signs are there whether we noticed them or not. I believe that people often times miss their "angels in action" because they don't realize that the signs are there right in front of them. It could be a telephone call, a butterfly or simply a dream that they don't remember. Angels are my protectors and like my spirit guides, they're there watching over me!

It's interesting that you mention that a lot of people don't really believe we're supposed to be having a wonderful and fulfilling lifetime here -- which means that they don't ask for guidance or assistance from the angels that really are around to help. I believe there always angels willing to help, but they don't force themselves on you. You have to ask and listen.

While I don't consider myself an authority on angels,I hold my belief in them close to my heart as a reality, not some dream or fantasy. I think angels can help guide us in the right direction towards the path that we were intended to walk in this lifetime while allowing us free will to take that on board or not. To me the most difficult thing for people to believe is they really are destined to live a wonderful fulfilling life and there are higher beings always around to help point the way and look out for us! Our frailty of belief is not so much in them, as in ourselves. I truly believe in them as " messengers of the Divine" as you put it (nice turn of phrase there!)and they're there for us in everyday life and situations just as often as in times of crisis. It's when you don't raise your awareness to receive the messages and see the signs that doubt sows its seeds, but once you do, a whole different world opens up to you. :)

I think there are different kinds of angels. Some of them are off doing things in the universe that I doubt we would understand, keeping things going. But others are around here on earth to try to help humans get through their daily lives. Those are the ones we think of as "our" angels because their job is to watch over us.
